They defend themselves, stab, poke, pinch, while we usually perform a tribal dance accompanied by inarticulate sounds. Our professional life-saving expert prepares you for difficult situations. Because you may have to help or save other people's lives

Summer has finally arrived, and we are not the only ones who are happy about it! The warm air and the tempting scent of flowers lured bees and wasps out of their winter hiding places. We would be fine next to each other outdoors, but unfortunately sometimes our little friends feel that we are attacking them, and then they defend themselves…

Unfortunately, an insect sting can be good fun for the onlooker, but it can also be fatal for the victim - so it doesn't hurt to take it seriously!

Our reactions to bee and wasp stings can be different. As a result of the bite, almost without exception, everyone's skin slightly swells, redness and swelling occurs at the site of the bite and in the immediate vicinity. There is no need to be alarmed by this if the swelling is no bigger than a one-forint coin. At that point it is not considered an allergic reaction, and a little ritual dance can forget the discomfort.

If the swelling is significantly larger, or if hive-like spots that itch or are watery appear elsewhere on our body in addition to the affected skin area, then we need to pay more serious attention to the case. In such a case, first aid must arrive in the form of antihistamine tablets, cream (e.g. Fenistil) or calcium. You can take calcium with you in the form of tablets, effervescent tablets or injections. The calcium injection should only be administered dissolved in soft drink or water, do not experiment with the needle!

The doctor intervenes

However, in case of any of the following reactions don't delay, consult a doctor - preferably an allergist - immediately!

or, in the most severe case, fainting (anaphylaxis) - the result of the collapse of blood circulation within minutes.

In this case, you must rush to the nearest he alth facility, where, as a rule, milder symptoms are treated with calcium or antihistamines, and in more severe cases, an adrenaline injection treat the symptoms. Until medical help is reached - if possible - let's get calcium into our body in the most dissolved form possible (injection) so that it can be absorbed faster. Let the doctor know what and how much you have taken! Taking antihistamine tablets rarely helps in these cases, since the poison attacks faster than the medicine dissolves and is absorbed.

When the bee or wasp gets into your glass…

Damage to the oral mucosa is considered a special injury! The cause of an accident that develops very quickly, causes alarming symptoms, and is often fatal, is most often the mouth of an animal that has fallen into a sugary drink… That is why, especially in the summer, outdoors, we should always make sure that is in our glass or on the edge of it are there no bees or wasps!

The lips, tongue, inner part of the mouth and pharynx swell multiple times in 1-2 minutes, tense up and can mechanically block the airway. If this happens, we only have minutes to successfully save a life.

The steps of self-rescue: immediately call an ambulance, a qualified first aider, who can help you with medicine and, if necessary, perform a laryngectomy!! !

As a provider in such a case, you must be prepared to open the indentation under the called Adam's ear cartilage. In an emergency, you must attempt this with a pen or any sharp tool, because otherwise the injured person may die within minutes. It is even more difficult for children.

Important to know:

In most cases, people who are allergic to bee stings are immune to wasp stings - and vice versa. Of course, in this, as in everything, there are exceptions, but they are rare.

Someone who has already been stung by a wasp or bee will usually react more intensely the next time they are stung - their symptoms will be more severe.

Allergies (IgE antibodies) can be detected with a simple blood test, so we can prepare for first aid even with an intramuscular (IM) adrenaline injection if we are preparing for a place where medical help is difficult to reach.

While the average adult needs 100 bee stings to deliver a lethal dose of venom, a single sting in hypersensitive people can cause a fatal anaphylactic/allergic reaction.

If someone is sensitive to stings, this property can be significantly reduced or eliminated by immune treatment against animal venom.

Deadly good treat for them

Wasps and bees are not much different from most ladies: they like sweets (honey, syrups), water, pretty floral patterned, brightly colored clothes, certain perfumes, scented cosmetics and shady, grassy places. Our defense can therefore consist of two parts: we ourselves avoid things that are attractive to them, but we give them somewhere else!

At the summer barbecue or picnic site, we treat our bird visitors with a delicious treat! Take an empty plastic bottle, cut small crosses on its side, then fold these crosses in such a way that the guests can only drive on it in one direction: towards the inside of the bottle! Pour 2-3 fingers of beer mixed with honey into the bottom of the glass and the last dinner is ready…If you know you are allergic to wasp or bee stings, always wear slippers when he walks in the grass, because wasps often rest in the shade of clovers.

What is the first thing to do if you are stung by a wasp or bee?

The most important thing is to remove the sting with tweezers or a needle, because if this is not done, the sting and the poison gland connected to it - which always breaks out in bees - can pulsate for up to 10 minutes. poison in our body. Do not press or scratch the bite because it will only make the situation worse. Wash the sting with an acidic solution (vinegar, lemon), apply it with a onion cut in half and wrap it with iceThe anti-inflammatory substances found in the onion reduce the pain locally, and the ice pack reduces the swelling. If you are organizing a garden party, you already have the mandatory first aid supplies: lemon, vinegar, onion, ice…

I wish everyone happy, bite-free summer days!
