According to the research published in the European Respiratory Journal, swimming started within two years can be dangerous. According to scientists, the scum is the chlorinated pool water, which can be especially dangerous for indoor pools. Chlorine alone is irritating to a baby, but when mixed with the sweat, urine and saliva of pool users, even more dangerous by-products can be created that damage the respiratory tract.

Baby swimming should be specifically avoided for children whose parents suffer from asthma or hay fever, and it seems clear that there is a greater risk of bronchiolitis among children participating in baby swimming, reports Reuters.

During the survey, 430 Belgian kindergarteners were examined. They found that among those who participated in baby swimming before the age of two, the rate of subsequent bronchiolitis was 36 percent, compared to 24 percent among those who did not go near a chlorinated pool. The proportions were even higher when examining who spent a lot of time in an indoor pool as a baby. This evening, the rate of respiratory diseases increased by three and a half times.

At the same time, the doctors emphasized that they are not advising parents not to take their children to public pools at all, - since movement in water is he althy, - just that they should be aware of the dangers and avoid excessively chlorinated water. Alternative disinfection techniques are recommended for those who have a pool at home.
