According to studies published on Sunday by researchers from San Diego, California and Harvard University in Boston, drug use by teenagers who sleep less than seven hours threatens not only them, but also their environment "like an epidemic", so the risk is manifold.

The researchers asked eight thousand teenagers about their sleeping habits and drug use, and based on the data they received, they drew the conclusion: there is a strong connection between lack of sleep and drug use, which also spreads in the affected teenagers' environment. This is the case, for example, with your siblings, friends, and acquaintances of the same age group.

Adolescents live in complex social networks and can be particularly vulnerable - claims the study, which was presented at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

According to researchers, if a teenager sleeps less than seven hours, the same will most likely happen to his friend. If a teen uses marijuana, the most popular drug among American teens, their friend is twice as likely to try weed than if they don't use a soft drug. According to researchers, teens who sleep less than seven hours are almost 20 percent more likely to smoke weed than those who sleep more than seven hours a night.

According to American researchers, lack of sleep can stimulate not only drug use, but also alcohol consumption. In other words, the more a teenager sleeps, the greater the chance that he will not get used to intoxicating substances.
