According to a survey by a British department store chain, Debenhams - in which 1,500 parents were interviewed - British parents spend an amount equal to more than $1,000 on their child's clothing every year, reports stylelist.com. This is jokingly called the Suri Cruise phenomenon, because she is the celebrity girl who constantly appears on the pages of magazines in expensive clothes, and whom parents most want to imitate. Suri's parents, Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, are not kidding, little Suri, who is barely four years old, could be seen more than once in high heels, shoulder-length earrings, a low-cut dress, and, of course, with the famous $800 Ferragamo handbag on her side.

And British parents do everything they can to make their children compete with the models walking the catwalk, - they can even spend the price of a family vacation on children's clothes.

In one season, they buy an average of seven dresses and five pairs of shoes for their daughters, while boys add five jeans and ten shirts. In addition, more than half of the parents stated that fashion is the primary consideration they take into account when choosing their child's clothes. 57 percent of the parents participating in the survey would never dress their child in second-hand clothes unless absolutely necessary, 63 percent buy clothes for their children even on special occasions, and 45 percent visit children's clothing stores at least once every two weeks.
