The main attraction of the circus' latest show is a pack of seven lions, who, although smelly and seem to carry out the tasks with one mind (and scare you with their roars), left all the cubs in awe. The equestrian number is forgettable, Dieter Bohlen, the male member of the quick-dressing couple, spit out, but that's about all the interesting things the program offered me. The children were delighted by the clown with hair standing up to the sky, the fathers were impressed by the leg juggler dressed in swing, and Mike Tyson appeared on the stage for me.

As an adult, I don't really like circus performances, the clowning with the crappy text is usually too forced for me, the so-called spectacular numbers bore me to death, and I simply feel sorry for the trained animals. However, with two children, visiting the circus is almost mandatory, so this weekend I convinced myself to take them to the latest show of the Budapest Grand Circus. I suffered less than expected.

It is worth booking and paying for tickets online, so you can choose your seat in advance, even in the first row, and you don't even have to stand in the snaking line at the ticket office: tickets bought online can be picked up outside the line. As I expected, upon arrival, the "Mommy, buy some popcorn!" started right away, well, after all, we rarely come, and even the price wasn't outrageous, you could say I was surprised at the buffet's cheap prices (small paper box juice 150 HUF). Armed with food and drink, we took our seats, and from then on, they shouted in my ear from both sides and commented on the program. "Mom, when are the lions coming?" question was asked about every ten minutes, and I said it for the sixth time after the break. (The aware mother informs herself about the program in advance.)

The Italian clown seemed to be quite a good person, I didn't feel uncomfortable watching his numbers, although I tried to melt into the chair when he selected actors from the audience for one of the numbers. Fortunately, I escaped selection, so I could watch from the safety of my chair as the clown made a fool of four dads and one mom. They stood in the middle of the stage with various instruments in their hands and had to play them at the clown's command. The father in front of us was on a sucker, they even put rattles on his head, and we laughed like a good audience as he shook his head to make those rattles ring.

The male member of the fast-dressing couple, the spit-out Dieter Bohlen, ran around the stage like a poisoned mouse, while his partner, who was undressing every minute, tried to show off his (not very encouraging) dancing skills to different musical styles. The dads were probably still thinking about the previous number, where the protruding-toothed but charming leg juggler showed off her long thighs in a loose outfit as she balanced on the balls.

The hand balancing act was terribly boring, but thanks to the choice of music, it became one of the most entertaining, at least for me. During Phil Collins' "In the air tonight" I imagined a scene from The Hangover on the stage instead of the gymnast, so I almost laughed out loud when Mike Tyson gave half-note Alan a wash. My daughters even asked me why I was so happy when they were just frolicking on the chair. "When are the lions coming?" Tyson, I want to say after the break.

Although there was a sickening smell of animals, the seven adult lions naturally enchanted everyone. Well, not the stunts (they jumped over each other), but rather the way the bender caressed them as if he was petting Cirmi at grandma's, he even put her head between one of his jaws. I prayed that the beast would not bite him right now, because I would be able to take the children to a psychologist. Similar thoughts occurred to me during the stunts of the aerialist and the rubber table acrobats.

My younger daughter, who is a lover of romance, was most looking forward to the horses after the lions, which was the last number. Disappointed, the poor detective concluded that there was nothing interesting about two horses running round and round, and the riders spinning on their backs. By the way, you are absolutely right: it was really boring, so I had to promise that we would also go to the Pony Park next to the circus (on the site of the old small amusement park) and sit on the horses' backs.
