If we've been dissecting the price of childbirth lately, it's worth reading the article of one of our readers who didn't think to choose a paid clinic for her birth: Kútvölgyi Maternity. You can agree or disagree with him, the point is, such clinics can indeed be good alternatives for those who wish to do so.

Maternity Obstetrics and Gynecology Private Clinic - Kútvölgy Premium Hospital

Like any mother expecting her first child, I was full of questions about the birth. That's why I decided to write my story, because today there are hospitals in Hungary from which people hardly want to go home…

Our little girl is a real miracle story, a child of love. My husband and I - then my partner - had known each other for years, we went to the same university, but for years only repressed desire glowed between us, as I was in a serious relationship. Then, two months before my wedding, I made a decision incomprehensible to others: I am leaving the engagement, as I feel such a mental and physical attraction for another man - who is now the father of my husband and child - that I simply cannot overcome, I felt that sooner or later overcome by temptation…

One month after the breakup, love was raging between us, and a few months later my partner asked: what if we had a child?! Although I personally did not yet feel an uncontrollable desire to become a mother, I let it go with the flow…

During our first attempt, my beloved calculated that the baby girl would be born on 10.10.2010, because what a joke, she entered the date in the phone calendar that very night: BIRTH… - this is how my little girl was born on 10.10.2010, … - but let's not run ahead like that!

So, luckily for us, we didn't have to wait long for the blessing, I got pregnant practically immediately. The pregnancy also went smoothly, we got married at 12 weeks, and then the weeks and months passed, everything went well. As a concerned father, my husband wanted to give us the best, and since I was working all the time - which is difficult to do for tests that require several hours of waiting - we decided on a private medical center for prenatal care. In the 8th month of pregnancy, the time came to look for the institution where I will give birth; I had two options where my obstetrician at the time worked: the István Hospital and the Telki Private Hospital. Since I considered the land plot a senseless waste of money, the state system remained, I thought I could last four days. I WAS WRONG!

My untroubled pregnancy and unclouded joy ended in a moment - or at least a visit to the hospital. I'm not the whiny type, but I was shocked by what I experienced. Dirt, lack of pretentiousness, complete lack of tools and equipment, even less than the minimum staff… I don't want to discourage anyone, but I felt that if we get out of here alive, we are lucky! It's amazing that babies have to be born and women have to give birth in these conditions!

Every expectant mother has one or two obsessions that she fears, as there are so many legends surrounding childbirth. For me, it was the pain that I was afraid of. Of course, not in an absurd way, but it was important for me to be able to use the opportunity of EDA if I felt like it on the big day. When asked about this in our state hospital, the answer was the following: if the anesthesiologist gets to it, then there is pain relief, if not, then he will get a shot or two!!! Well, the water is broken here! If you get it??? As it turned out, there are a total of two anesthesiologists in the entire hospital - not just the maternity ward - who are on duty day and night. So you won't get it! My chance for a single room is equal to five in the lottery, and I could also list the fact that there is not a single diaper in the class, the little dads go to the gas station opposite for food, etc., but I didn't listen to the whole thing, because that was already too much! Desperation settled on me: how to proceed, then where will I give birth now?

After a relaxing bath in a big tub at home, we went online to see what private hospital options were available and how much they cost. Even that weekend, we looked at several institutions, and we felt that the Kútvölgyi - Maternity, which had just been handed over at the time, would be our place.

You can imagine what it was like after the disappointing visit to the state hospital to chat about whether dad would ask for a vegetarian menu for his five meals a day, that the professional head professor talked to us personally, and that the rooms resembled the latest five-star hotel design. …

Now everyone can say that it is easy for those who have the money. But we did the math.

State Hospital:

Obstetrician (out of pocket) HUF 150,000 - that's what he asked for, this was told in advance

Midwife, anesthesiologist, etc. (in pocket) HUF 50,000

Single room for 3 nights (if you can get together) HUF 45,000

Diapers and all other accessories HUF 5,000

Breastfeeding consultant HUF 10,000 per hour

_

∑: HUF 260,000

Private Hospital:

400,000 HUF, on account, in luxurious conditions, which can also be paid with a he alth fund.

There was no question for us! HUF 140,000 is not an unimaginable sum. We preferred to buy a cheaper cot and stroller, since these are just objects, but the experience of giving birth will last a lifetime.

On the expected day, our little one left at 4 minutes after midnight, I went into the hospital happy and completely calm, because I knew I was going to the best place, where everyone would fight for me in those moments.

After seven and a half hours of labor, our daughter Liza was born, who is a miracle (like every child to her parents). The labor took place at the requested time, next to EDA, in soft lights, on a ball and under a warm shower, with soft jazz music, in a cafe atmosphere. After the birth, everyone was there for us, they visited us several times a day, the lactation consultant helped with every feeding, for days, the obstetrician hugged us like an old good friend, encouraged, helped, excited and happy with us… It was a fantastic experience, unforgettable!

The days that followed were also wonderful, just like in a hotel: the receptionist asked if he could let the visitor in; the cleaners only had to display the sign asking for new towels and cleaning; the nurses helped me with everything, the lactation consultant showed me countless ways to feed my baby, and the doctors stood by us with fantastic humanity in the days when the three of us became a real family.

It was worth it to me.
