Do you need a new laptop, would you like to buy a tablet because you would read your favorite book on the beach in the summer, or buy a television? When you open a discount newspaper or search on the Internet, do you not know what the acronyms piled up behind each other mean? You have no idea about the numbers listed there either? If you ask in the store, do they look completely stupid?

Don't worry, we happily made fools of ourselves in front of an expert, who in return told us what it means in a non-comprehensive, user-friendly way.

Laptop

The first and most important thing where we can immediately get stuck is what is the difference between netbook, notebook and ultrabook. A netbook is a small computer designed specifically for internet use only. By the way, these are starting to fall out of the public consciousness and from the shops' offers, since the rapid spread of tablets, since they don't do much more, but they are also more inconvenient and heavier than tablets. Considering the size of the notebook, it is a laptop in the classic sense, which can be used for many other tasks in addition to browsing, depending on the configuration.

The ultrabook is the latest generation, more expensive than average notebooks, but thinner and lighter. Its size is between a netbook and a notebook, its display is 13-14 inches, and its battery lasts longer than that of a traditional notebook. Intel's own development, so these models are only available with their processors. Regarding the numbers, according to our expert, the principle of more is better, but let's see what they mean in practice:

Display inch size: It is difficult to imagine a size given in a unit of measurement that is not used by us based on a plain advertisement, but based on our expert's analogy intended to be compatible with women's magazines, "one inch is roughly equal to like an average artificial nail". If this does not give you enough information, or if you do not wear artificial nails (or are not the size of your nails), we tell you that the multiplication number to get centimeters from inches is exactly 2.54. For those who still can't, remember that the screen of an iPhone 5 is 4 inches, an average small netbook is between 11-13 inches, and the usual notebook size is 15.6-17 inches.

CPU: The processor, but it is also called the brain of the computer. The bigger the number behind it, which is given in GHz, the better, because the faster it is, it doesn't stutter, so the better it works.

RAM: We will see a GB unit behind it, and it is also true that the larger it is, the faster our machine will be, the better the CPU can work. By the way, this can be expanded in some cases, but it is by no means easy for an average home user, so it is worth buying a machine with a large memory from the start.

HDD: Storage where we can save everything, from pictures to music to documents and movies. Many people believe that it is not important that it is big, since it will be supplemented with an external Winchester with a large storage capacity, but it is even more cumbersome to carry it around (although, without a doubt, a device suitable for storing backups is useful in every household). And of course, today there are storage spaces in the cloud, such as Dropbox or Google Drive, which we can rent for any amount of money.

VGA: is nothing but the video card. It is important which video card our purchased machine has, because it depends on the intensity with which we can play games or watch videos on it. In most cases, the video card integrated in average, cheaper laptops is not suitable for really spectacular computer games, but it is perfect for surfing the net and watching YouTube videos. If our needs are greater than this, it is worth investigating and investing in a better video card. In some advertisements, the memory size of the graphics controller is also indicated, which is worth paying attention to, as the bigger the better principle applies here as well.

HDMI: Even if our video card isn't the best, we can still watch movies if our gadget has an HDMI output. With this, we can connect our device to the TV, and there we can even watch the movies stored on our device in HD, i.e. sharp quality.

MMC/SD: We can read the memory card of cameras, phones, or even video cameras without any kind of card scanning equipment, simply through the built-in card reader.

Battery type, cell number, etc.: According to our expert, these are the parameters that are really only important to those who are really professional users, and those sellers prefer to fill the parameters with such information places to list for those who really want to sell something. Rest assured, this information is completely irrelevant to the average user.

Tablets / smartphones

Tablets have revolutionized the concept of surfing the net. You no longer have to hunch over a table or hold the computer in your lap in uncomfortable positions when you sit on the sofa, because now you can surf the net, play games or read a book while lying in bed. As their popularity grows, the prices go down, so you can find machines with excellent parameters in the shops at a very low price.

Capacitive vs resistive: Although the resistive touch display is starting to completely disappear from the store shelves, it is worth knowing the difference between the two. Resistive is the touch display used on older models, where people with artificial nails still did well, because we often had to cut it hard enough to get our tablet or phone to do what we wanted. Many people used a pen-like device developed for this purpose, which helped them hit the target more accurately. This was replaced by capacitive displays, which are much more user-friendly, it is enough to gently touch the given surface to react. We can't control them not only with a pen, but also with gloves, as many people experience in the winter.

Flash memory: The internal memory of most tablets is small, but it is possible to expand it. We can do this with various SD memory cards, which we simply insert into our tablet and we can already use the expanded memory.

Processor: The more cores, the better principle also applies.

G-sensor: In addition to being brilliant for various games, the motion sensor also plays a very important security role. In case of danger, in laptops, for example, it reduces the risk of failure by turning off the winchester if it detects a sudden change in movement.

3G/ 4G: 4G is the latest generation of mobile internet. This enables even faster Internet access, so movies, video clips, and listening to music will be much more enjoyable. At the same time, it should be noted that even though we have a phone that is suitable for 4G internet, if there is no coverage by our service provider, we will not be able to experience this experience.

HD recording, camera megapixel: Some devices can film in HD resolution. If you also want to use your phone or tablet to record videos, or replace your camera with it, you will be happy about it. However, it should be noted that these devices only have digital zoom, which means that the closer you zoom in on the subject you want to take a photo or video, the more blurry and grainy the image will become.

TV

3D TV, HD resolution, LED, LCD, here the set of acronyms is completely impossible to follow, although it is not as complicated as in the case of computers.

LED: Now this is the most common type of TV type. In terms of consumption, it is more favorable than LCD, and it heats up much less than plasma TV, so it is worth investing in it now.

Hz: It's not really authoritative anymore with LED TV, otherwise it was cool if someone had a 100 Hz TV, because it was less stressful the eye like its predecessors.

3D: Although some TVs are already suitable for passive 3D (the glasses are cheaper for them, but the experience is said to be less), the majority still have one per person, many in any case, it's not very cheap, and it works with ugly and uncomfortable 3D glasses.

Viewing angle: This indicates the angle from which the image quality can be enjoyed from the side. Think about how unpleasant it is when the person sitting on the edge of the sofa can no longer see the TV at all, so in the case of a family of four, let's say, the children have to sit on the floor at the parent's feet during movie night.
