Summer has started, last year's barbecue tools (in many cases stored without proper cleaning) have been found. If you've realized that you don't feel like scraping the grease off the grill, or if you're thinking about buying a new oven anyway, we'll tell you what options you have.

Selecting and placing a grill

Before buying, think about the intensity with which you want to grill, and how big a group of friends you want to invite. Do you want to be the envied barbecue champion of the street, or would you just grill a few slices of meat for the family every Saturday? Do they also cook bacon, or even cook it in a pot? Is there enough space in the garden for a permanent barbecue, or do you want to remove the traces after each use? Do you want to bother with charcoal, or would you rather run gas in your oven?

Whether it is a mobile grill or a permanent one, put it in a place that is not only protected from the wind, but also does not obstruct traffic, and will not be knocked over by anyone even slightly drunk. It should also be stable, make sure it doesn't topple over on its own if a larger piece of meat is placed on one side. Of course, it is natural not to have any material that could catch fire near it, but it is not advisable to put it near the door or under the window either, because the smoke will enter the apartment.

Charcoal grill

The cheapest grills are usually small charcoal grills, which can be purchased for as little as a few thousand forints. Their advantage, in addition to their cheapness, is that they can be packed away quickly, and the grid can be easily cleaned after use. Their disadvantage is that they cannot fit many things at the same time, they are often very unstable, and during an all-night barbecue party with many guests, the charcoal has to be taken apart and then reheated so that everything can be grilled on it. Ignition fluid is an essential accessory for its operation, so it must always be taken care of. According to some, the charcoal will give the food a special aroma, while others are also able to explain that they can feel the flavor of the lighter fluid in the meat.

The simplest, round grill at Auchan costs HUF 1,490. For HUF 5,990, you can buy a device that looks as unstable as the round grill, and the spherical grill with a lid costs the same. The square grill with a larger cooking surface costs HUF 6,990, and the grill cart HUF 7,490.

The cheapest charcoal version in Obi is the wheeled grill cart, which also has a place to put the tools used for the rotation, or the finished pack grilled food next to it. It costs HUF 6,999, which is exactly the same as Auchanos. The more expensive version with a lid costs HUF 8,999.

The table grill is the cheapest in Praktiker. Something like a trough, the charcoal is poured into it, and there is a small grate on it. It also has legs, so you can hope the injection-molded rattan-patterned plastic table doesn't melt under it, but maybe it's better not to try that. The circular grill cart costs HUF 7,999, and the grill with the lid and ash collector, and even the porcelain-coated grill in the oven, costs HUF 14,990. There are also more expensive versions, for example the own-brand Praktiker grill cart costs HUF 39,990. The Baumax round grill, also seen in Auchan, costs HUF 2,690, there is a table grill for HUF 2,790, and also HUF 5,490, the latter being foldable. The round garden grill cart costs HUF 4,990, and the spherical grill with a lid costs HUF 8,990. You can also buy a cast-iron grill, which is sure not to be blown over by the wind, it's HUF 6,990. The bizarre-looking funnel grill costs HUF 11,990 at Baumax.

Gas grill

You don't have to worry about lighting them, just have enough gas in the gas bottle. Even if it works with it, because this type can even work with piped gas, and even in some cases directly with diesel oil, but that still makes them known as gas grills, so be sure to find out before you buy such a grill. Many people say that the typical charcoal flavor is missing here, but others swear by that, we won't do it justice. It's a positive thing that you don't have to clean up ashes, buy lighter fluid, and fan it, so it's definitely easier, but at the same time, being unlucky with gas is quite dangerous, just as, of course, it's not difficult to set the garden on fire with the charcoal version. By the way, in many places it is advised to buy a lava stone version. It works on the principle that the gas can regulate the heat with a bulb, which heats up the lava stone. This - similarly to charcoal - is ignited, and this is how the grill is prepared on the grill above it. Unlike charcoal, it doesn't burn, so it can be used multiple times. The food does not char because if too much fat or oil does not drip out due to marinating, the lava stone does not catch fire. However, this is only true if there is really little fat, so it requires constant supervision, just in case there is too much stuff dripping out.

You can buy a gas grill at Auchan for HUF 19,990, but it's only one burner. The three steel-burning gas grill carts are 54,990 HUF, but if you want to grill all the food you can get your hands on all summer long, it's worth the investment. Obi has a similar selection, the cheapest gas grill here is HUF 20,990, but it's made of lava stone. The three-burner, mid-price version costs HUF 59,990, while the more expensive gas grill cart costs HUF 89,990. In Praktiker, you can buy a gas grill with three steel burner heads for HUF 54,990, while in Baumax, a gas grill costs HUF 59,990.

Electric grill

The electric grill is practical from the point of view that it can be set up very simply, because you just have to plug it into the outlet. Of course, if you want to grill in the middle of the garden, it's quite inconvenient to run the electricity with extension cords, so it's good to plan your location in advance. Actually, this type is not designed for huge garden parties, it usually doesn't have much space for grilling, but the food is ready quickly, there is no smoke, and cleaning is easy. The electric grill is for those who don't have a huge garden, or even just a balcony, but want to grill. Most of them can also be used in the apartment, so you can heat them up even in the middle of winter.

In Baumax, you can buy an electric grill stone plate oven for HUF 8,990, and for HUF 9,990 one that you can attach to the balcony railing next to the geraniums as a nice space-saving solution.

Built-in grills

If you really see a great future in your career as a barbecue chef, and you think that you will be able to entertain yourself and your family in the summer with this, and your garden is big enough (or well-planned) for it, then by all means build a barbecue area. These already serve as multi-functional constructions, because you can ask for one in which, in addition to grilling, you can also fry bacon, or you can put a pot on it, and you can even put one in which you can bake pizza. The really handy ones can build it themselves, there are some videos on Youtube showing how to do it.

If you'd rather go shopping, you can buy one at Auchan for HUF 99,990 that you can fry bacon on, but the family can't sit around. At Praktiker, you can buy a garden oven for HUF 24,990, with which you can fry bacon and cook in a pot, but not grill. Baumax has a wide selection, the cheapest stone grill costs HUF 29,990, and the type that can also be used for cooking costs HUF 85,990.

Whatever you choose, don't forget the accessories you need for grilling, by which we don't mean alcohol, but the meat grinder, meat spatula, grill fork or marinade spreader. And plenty of paper towels.
