Looking in the mirror, anyone can sometimes feel that they were in better shape, and there are even days when they come to the conclusion that it is better not to look in the mirror anymore. Of course, this does not necessarily mean that the situation is really so depressing, it is possible that only the circumstances are to blame for the sight. Everyone knows what these circumstances are: it could be insomnia, it could be a bad hangover, it could just be Monday. However, according to the Huffington Post, it could be the mirror itself, for example. The paper collected four more risk factors that are not good for self-esteem, avoid them and your day will start better!

1. Don't use a magnifying mirror unless you're plucking your eyebrows

You can get countless magnifying mirrors in cosmetic stores, but if you use them too often, it can easily ruin your self-confidence. If you have already spied on yourself in one of these, then you don't need to explain much why. If you haven't come across it yet, we'll help you: on the one hand, there are errors that would be impossible to notice with the naked eye, and on the other hand, it disproportionately exaggerates the existing ones, so at first glance, anyone who looks at it for even a moment is faced with a very disheartening sight.

2. Don't put neon lights on the bathroom mirror

The light of these burners is very deceiving, as they emit such a sharp white light that everyone looks like a zombie! Thus, it is not enough to destroy a person's ego, but even the foundation can be easily ruined because of it. To get a real picture of yourself, use a bulb with a spectrum close to the color of natural sunlight instead, according to lighting designer Ira Levy, such as the MR 16 halogen bulb.

3. Do not have a computerized skin analysis done

It may be that a facial skin testing device presents us with really thorough and accurate results, somehow the end result is never that the condition of our skin could not be more perfect. If you are overly professional in confronting the size of your pores, the catastrophic state of your skin's hydration, oil content, and the number of wrinkles, it will only make you feel hopelessly old and ugly. Another source of danger is that if you quickly buy some insanely expensive cream/treatment out of desperation to compensate, you may even feel like crap for the rest of the month.

4. Avoid lighting from below

Everyone remembers the trick from childhood, when even the most familiar face turned into a scary monster in an instant with a shining flashlight placed under the chin. Stephen Dantzig, author of Lighting Techniques for Fashion and Glamor Photography, advises that if you want to look your best, avoid places where the light comes from below. The human eye is used to light coming from above (see sunlight), so it sees the world that way. In the case of lighting coming from below, parts of the face cast shadows in places where they would never fall under natural light, so the end result is unusual and certainly disadvantageous.

Furthermore, it is also not good if you get the light sharply from above (which is why many stars do not even allow them to be photographed in the midday sun): the end result is round, sunken eyes, a huge nose, a mouth that disappears in the shadow of the nose.

That is why, if possible, solve the lighting in your bathroom in such a way that there is a lamp above the center of the wash basin, and additional lights on at least one side (optimally on both sides).

5. Don't compare yourself to the good guys you see in magazines and movies

Although according to some theories over-photoshopped models are good for women's self-esteem, we think this is the rarest. If you rather despair that you have no chance of looking like these girls on the covers (or at least an average Hollywood actress at an average red carpet event), then just think: if you too had a separate beauty team with a stylist, hairdresser, make-up artist, beautician, with a personal trainer, a dietician, and fashion designers who send you free clothes samples, then wouldn't the same photos be taken of you? Of course.

It might also cheer you up if you look at some celebrities without makeup and hairdos. For example, look at Gwyneth P altrow in these photos: is she really the most beautiful woman in the world?! Are you having a better day?
