To a Paleolithic apartment restaurant, both the Paleolithic and the apartment restaurant parts of which are considered insanely popular these days. Obviously, we were mainly interested in Paleolithic dishes, because it is not so easy to get a great Paleolithic dinner in Budapest. It's not like we agree with the Paleolithic diet, but we have to admit that it really is possible to lose weight, especially if you combine it with exercise. The menu included duck pate, shallot cream soup, crab cocktail, steamed salmon steak and chicken skewers, as well as French apple tart.

The essence of the paleolithic diet in short is that one cannot eat cereals (such as wheat or rice), legumes (such as peas or beans), any dairy products (although various hard cheeses can be eaten in the more permissive trend), potatoes, vegetables oils and sugars. This clearly shows that you can choose quite narrowly, and it is easy to summarize what you can eat: fruits, vegetables, eggs, and all kinds of meat without restrictions. And from this it is easy to see that it is not easy to cook in a variety of ways. That's why such a dinner is interesting.

To hum smartly

If you go to such a (let's say) special restaurant, you do it because you are curious about how people who are presumably more knowledgeable than you prepare certain things. So, in addition to wanting to enjoy the flavors, you also want to learn something, or at least cleverly hum that, okay, this and that can be prepared anyway. In the case of paleolithic people, it is also funny because many people would stick to one or another older flavor and constantly experiment to replace it. The taste of fried potatoes, for example, is surprisingly well recalled by fried celery.

Almost everything at our Paleolithic dinner was delicious, especially the shallot cream soup, but it wasn't exactly a Paleolithic dinner. At least not in the way we imagined. This was just a menu that happened to fit well into the Paleolithic diet. It's as if they avoided witty, tricky tricks by choosing things that can stand on their own. Crab cocktail or salmon steak is not a Paleolithic reinterpretation of something, but - hold on tight - crab cocktail and salmon steak.

Doomed to Experiment

Also, in a paleolithic household, it is usually a problem to prepare different types of dough, such as baking a decent paleo bread. It wouldn't be a particularly big effort, you just have to mix the ingredients, then pop it in the oven for 20-30 minutes. But the end result is somehow never going to be perfectly satisfactory, so you're doomed to constant experimentation following the paleo diet. If you are already tired of the different flours or have failed with them, then come the seeds (for example almonds), which still need to be ground.

So making pasta is not easy, so it received special attention, at a paleo dinner I wonder how they will succeed. Unfortunately, the hosts were only half as successful in this. The crisp made from a mixture of flaxseed flour and ground sesame seeds, which was added to the liver, was delicious, but the apple tart, which was also made from ground sesame seeds, had a plain sawdust taste and texture. They also modestly admitted that they still need to work on the cake dough, because it completely fell apart when slicing it. Where it could have flashed, it was only partially successful.

It was ok, but it's not enough

Other than that, everything was absolutely fine, just not enough for a Paleolithic dinner. When putting together the menu, for example, it would be worthwhile to make sure that at least five of the six dishes serve something interesting, because you can get salmon and chicken almost anywhere, even in non-paleo places, so it would be easy to fit in if something just didn't work out. perfectly.
