In several kindergartens, chicken pox is spreading, parents are warned about this in the III., XI. in several kindergartens in the district. The disease, which is known to relatively few people, is also called the fifth disease (after the quartet of rubella, measles, mumps, and chicken pox). The disease, which mainly affects the 4-12-year-old age group, usually appears as an epidemic every two years, but fortunately, due to its mild course, there is no need to be afraid of it.

We also contacted the ÁNTSZ in the matter, who informed us that since this disease does not belong to the range of notifiable infectious diseases, they do not keep a record of it.

Dr. To our inquiry, pediatrician Milei Krisztina told us that there is no need to fear the disease, by the time the patients see a doctor, they are no longer contagious, so at most the doctor will issue a certificate. Adults are not usually infected with the disease, in his practice he met a mother who developed upper respiratory symptoms after her little daughter fell ill. This year (he orders in the 18th district) he did not come across a single disease, according to his memories, there were many infected before last year. On the other hand, the disease is raging in Újbuda, for example in Őrmező, and forty patients appeared at one pediatrician on Monday, almost all of them with chicken pox.

Symptoms

Chicken pox
Chicken pox

In most cases, viral infection does not cause symptoms, but the patient is infected. Some may experience flu-like symptoms, but avoid the rash that gives the disease one of its names. Others may experience a butterfly-shaped rash, primarily on the face and bridge of the nose, which spreads throughout the body. Rashes also appear on the legs and arms, which vary in shape. In some cases, the skin lesion itches, but many people do not encounter it. The infection is sometimes accompanied by fever, joint pain and swollen lymph nodes.

How does it spread?

It can be caught by droplet infection (sneezing, coughing, but also by shaking hands or touching. The incubation period can be 4-20 days. Parvovirus B19 is only mildly contagious. If skin symptoms appear, from then on the patient no longer contagious.

Who is dangerous?

Pregnant women, especially those in the first trimester, should stay away from children with chicken pox, but most pregnant women do not have any problems with the disease.

Management modes

Medical treatment is usually not necessary, it is best to treat the symptoms as much as possible (fever, itching, joint pain). Rashes usually go away in 1-2 weeks.

A parent's experience

The almost seven-year-old Vilma met the standards of the disease in all aspects. On Saturday night, his face was a little red, and on Sunday morning it was already red, which took on the classic butterfly shape by Monday. Apart from the rashes, he had no other problems, he showed the image of a cheerful child who seemed he althy in every respect, maybe he was a little more tired than usual, he slept easily for one and a half to two hours in the afternoon, which he can do at other times. However, he discovered with excitement day by day how the rashes on his body were increasing, which were sometimes a little itchy.

Diagnosing the illness was not difficult, since he was not allowed to go to kindergarten when he played together, but of course he interrupted me on the playground with Peti, who proudly announced that he was not going to kindergarten because he had chicken pox. Of course, he would have caught him regardless, because half the group showed up at the ovis graduation with flushed faces, and not because of excitement. But since when it is visible, it is not contagious, when it is not visible, no one knows that the disease is hiding there, and this is not really important either. It seems like you have to catch it once and you're done.

A few days later, her sister's head turned red too.
