At this year's CFDA gala, i.e. at the annual Council of Fashion Designers of America award ceremony, Vera Wang took home the Lifetime Achievement Award. The sumptuous gala, which is referred to as the Oscars of the fashion world, is famous for its red carpet procession, the most beautiful models, actresses and fashion experts take part in the event, where everything is about fashion. Click here to see this year's best dresses and biggest blunders on the red carpet, and we present the winner of the evening, Vera Wang.

Wang, born in 1949, was a successful figure skater when he was young, but he did not change his career as a designer, the maximum he contributed was that he gave up the sport in 1971 (then in 1994 he designed Nancy Kerrigan's figure skating dress for the Winter Olympics). After university, he started working for Vogue, in 1987 he started designing and got a job at Ralph Lauren. Now we are mostly known for her wedding and casual dresses, which is due to the fact that she couldn't find a suitable dress for her own wedding in 1989, so she designed one for herself and then opened a wedding dress salon. From here we already know his career, celebrities picked up his clothes, his former colleagues were happy to feature him in Vogue, so he slowly gained ground.

In addition to the many media appearances, the award is of course mainly due to the talent of the designer, the fact that he never joined the profession as a wedding dress designer, he had no prejudices. “I don't want to sound too egotistical, but I've never followed any rules when it comes to wedding dresses. I came into the business without having a preconceived idea of what wedding dresses should be, Wang told WWD.

“I always tried to cross my own limits both visually and technically. This is part of my journey. It's no secret that I don't have a big ready-to-wear collection, because it's not such an adventure for me, it's not the essence of my journey, it's not what I want to learn. It is very important for me as a person to constantly learn, develop and experiment. So that I don't have to come up with big collections, I have the opportunity to make really personal things, added Wang, who also doesn't see the CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award as having arrived somewhere and it's time to rest:

“This recognition means a lot to me, it's an amazing honor. To be recognized by those you look up to is a big word, and I'm not just thinking about fellow designers, but also editors, resellers, and everyone who voted. It's a huge honor. At the same time, I want to feel that I deserve this recognition, so I look back at my previous works and my personal development, and I hope that I will not disappoint myself or the others, said the designer.

Of course, the one whose clothes are loved by Hollywood celebrities is not immune to criticism either, but you have to know how to deal with negative things as well. "The worst thing about the red carpet is when someone who wears my dress is criticized. It affects me very deeply, not only the star. The red carpet is a real gamble, it's like Vegas," said the 64-year-old designer in the interview.
