With a little exaggeration, one of the most characteristic, but undoubtedly the strangest features of our face is located there, our eyebrows. Many people spend a lot of money and time shaping it, pulling it with tweezers, waxing it, drawing it, or worse, tattooing it, but why is it actually there above our eyes? Women's He alth collected some interesting facts on the subject.

1. We have eyebrows to see better

As strange as it may sound, the real purpose of our eyebrows - in addition to giving our eyes a wonderful character - is to keep moisture away from the eyes, for example when it rains or when we sweat. The essence of the curved shape is that it leads this moisture to both sides of the eye, thus protecting our vision.

2. It plays a key role in facial recognition

In a study conducted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, most participants found it more difficult to identify acquaintances in photos from which their eyebrows had been digitally removed. According to experts, eyebrows can be even more important than eyes when commenting on another person's face.

3. Mouse hair tuning

Each era and culture had its own method of shaping eyebrows. For example, people in Renaissance Florence shaved their eyebrows completely, while the elite of American settlers in the 18th century preferred to enhance them with gray mouse hair. It must have been fake.

Natural-looking eyebrows are eternal fashion

"The ideal eyebrow shape can be determined with almost geometric precision: it starts from the vertical line supported by the nose, then if this line is tilted to the outer corner of the eye, at an angle of approximately 45 degrees, it shows how long the eyebrows would last - according to the rule of the golden ratio. As for the curve, it rises up to two-thirds of the way, then it breaks down," says Márti Honfi-Brecska, consultant at Beauty and Style Budapest.

Unfortunately, the majority of ladies are not aware that eyebrows greatly affect the character of the face. The most common mistake is to pluck them too thin, and this can be made worse if the arch is also shaped in such a way that it breaks at the wrong angle. or it is in the wrong place. For example, the person is constantly surprised with thin, arched eyebrows, but I often see that on a rounder face, the eyebrows are made to be arched, thereby enhancing the roundness even more. However, this could be offset with a slightly more angular shape.

For the color of the eyebrows, I usually recommend brown, as it is the most natural and looks good on most people, of course with different intensities and shades. In the case of dyed hair, I think it's most aesthetic if we sneak a similar shade into the color of the eyebrow dye, adds the expert.

4. It has a will of its own

Our eyebrows are an important tool for expressing our emotions, and sometimes they even work on their own: if, for example, the pitch of our voice rises, it automatically rises, and vice versa. In addition, they also observed that in the case of involuntary grimaces, such as surprise, the eyebrows move in a coordinated and symmetrical manner on both sides, while in the case of intentional facial expressions (e.g. suspicion or curiosity), the exact opposite happens, and our eyebrows move asymmetrically on both sides of our face.

5. Shaggy is essential

According to the Bosley Institute, which deals with hair transplantation, there are at least 250 hairs in the eyebrows of an average person, but according to certain studies, an eyebrow that has never been plucked can contain up to 1100 hairs! These strands fall out approximately every four months and new ones grow in their place.

Misconceptions that taking a lot makes it thinner

"The reason behind the loss of eyebrows, like hair, is more a disease or a lack of minerals - says Márti Honfi-Brecska. they are characterized by rarer eyebrows. As for the procedures, perhaps the classic, tweezers solution is the gentlest - of course, this does not mean that it is the least painful or unpleasant for the person."

6. It is a special advantage

Many mammals have eyebrows and even use them to express their emotions, but humans are the only species that has this strip of hair on their bare skin - which is very useful from an evolutionary point of view, as our peers can see and interpret our facial expressions much more easily.

7. Says more about us than we think

In his book Amazing Face Reading, Mac Fuller writes about how the shape of the eyebrows shows our personality. According to this, people with curved eyebrows are people-oriented and like to experience everything for themselves, a straight-line shape refers to a logical, fact-loving and straightforward person, while a steep angle in an eyebrow shows that the person sticks to what is right and tries to control every situation mentally.
