In this case, the solution is to run indoors on a treadmill. Although we don't dispute that running outdoors is much more enjoyable than sweating in a closed room among a bunch of people, but if you can't solve your training any other way, but you don't want to neglect it, this could be the perfect solution.

Boston Magazine asked long-distance runner Sarah Walker (and personal trainer at Boston Running Center) whether running on a treadmill is really as effective as running on the field. In addition, we have also collected, under what circumstances, why it is worth running in a gym or on a treadmill.

“I prefer the runners I train to run outdoors, and only choose the treadmill for extreme conditions such as snowstorms, heat waves, or darkness. At the same time, I don't really like running in the gym, because it uses less energy, because the conveyor belt moves, most people only include flat cross-country running in their training, and there is no air resistance, no wind, says the expert. Nevertheless, there are conditions in which this solution is still not to be rejected.

Of course, running on a treadmill has its downsides. According to an article in the Huffington Post, for example, exercise becomes too monotonous over time. In this case, personal trainer Jason Karp advises that while running it is worth changing the gear and terrain conditions, i.e. whether you are running on flat terrain or on an incline. “Also, make sure you don't hold on to the treadmill while running, as this will make running easier and burn fewer calories. Safe

Many people can only go for a run in the early twilight or after work, in the evening, in the dark of winter, and at this time one cannot necessarily feel safe in the open field, especially if the performance-enhancing beat is still blaring from the mp3 player into his ear. Everyone knows the scene from the movies when the woman running alone is attacked in such a situation, and although the probability of this happening is not high, it is still worth eliminating that few percent if possible. Safety is important, and of course the feeling of safety, so if you are one of those people who sometimes look behind you to see who is running behind them, choose the treadmill in the gym instead.

You can also run uphill

In addition to being able to change the speed, you can also determine the degree of difficulty of the uphill or downhill section, as Jason Karp already mentioned above. By the way, you can burn more calories than if you just run smoothly, and your calves, thighs and bottom will also be much more shapely.

“If you have no choice but to run on the treadmill, I suggest you set the incline to 1%, cover the speed and mileage display with a towel, and then choose a comfortable pace that you know, so that you can keep it comfortably for a long time. How long you run depends on how trained you are, how fit you are, and what you're running for, adds Walker.

Less chance of getting hurt

In the cold, the muscles are much more vulnerable, especially if you don't warm up properly before moving, you may get injured. This is topped off by the fact that if you run on the ground instead of on a running track, you may not notice a pothole or pothole (in the case of public roads, you may not even be noticed), which can have unpleasant consequences. You don't have to worry about that on the treadmill either.

Closer to family

If you work at a very busy, hectic pace, and you have the chance to buy a treadmill at home, you can also save the time you have to spend going to and from the gym. What's more, even your children can be near you, what more do you need?!

Comfortable

It is not only because of the above that it is comfortable to run on a treadmill, but for example you can listen to the radio and watch movies on the better machines. These will make running easier and you won't even have to miss your favorite series.

It is certain that running in a gym is much more comfortable than running outdoors: the terrain is predictable; no need to dress in layers if it's cold outside; there is a tap nearby to drink from; bathroom, if your metabolism starts up from movement; you don't have to carry the key or the mp3 player, and you don't have to be afraid (some people don't like to run alone); and last but not least: you can take a shower immediately after training.
