For children, autumn is the season of collecting beautiful leaves, from which you can then stick pictures. However, with sufficient dexterity and talent, we also have other options: for example, we can create forms similar to those experimented with by freelance illustrator Maeda Baku. The artist from the big Japanese city of Sapporo creates wonderful but simple animal sculptures from dry magnolia leaves, writes laughingsquid.com about the skillfully cut shapes.

With the two-part project “Leaf Beast”, Baku aims to give new life to dead leaves by taking advantage of the folds and veined structure of the leaves, giving them a new function with minimal changes. Drawing inspiration primarily from the world of Japanese and international comics, Baku's name is not unknown in the industry. Since 2003, he has been a member of Goback2D, a team of eight Japanese-London illustrators, who have held exhibitions in London and Manchester, among others. You can see the other works of the imaginative leaf sculptor by clicking here, but this is not his only speci alty: here, for example, the artist made glasses from blocks of ice.
