Around Christmas, not only in the kitchen, but also in decoration, you should try some simple, but all the more showy 'do it yourself' practices. Now we show you a quick-to-make, cheap and cozy lamp decoration, which you can use not only by hanging it on the lamp.
What you will need:
- at least 2 m of red ribbon (thickness depends on taste) - I bought it in a hobby shop, approx. HUF 100
- 9 pearls or any decorative element that can be strung - also from a hobby shop, HUF 90 each
- decoration with a Christmas tree pattern - I got it at the Csepel market, but you can probably find something similar in hobby shops, it was HUF 540 in total
- scissors
First step: Figure out how big the ornament should be
This is important because you need to work with the appropriate length of tape. The size also depends a lot on how many decorative elements you have per ribbon - my version is approx. It is 30 cm long and three Christmas tree ornaments and pearls fit perfectly comfortably on it. I made a total of three - I don't think it looks good on its own - so I bought a total of 2 m of ribbon.
Step two: knot the end of the ribbon
Before you start wrapping the ornaments, tie a strong knot at the end of the ribbon to prevent them from falling off. The size of the knot depends on the perforated part of the ornaments, for me they have survived perfectly well with a double knot.
Step three: figure out the pattern and string the ornaments
I varied the Christmas trees and wooden balls alternately, after a strung tree, a pearl followed. I didn't tie a knot between them, I really like the way the pearl is held by the cute Christmas tree ornament, but of course feel free to experiment and vary the pattern.
Tip: First, always pull the ribbon through the bottom hole of the Christmas tree elements, then run it along the 'back' and pin it through the top opening as well, this way it will be perfectly square the end result is fitting. Also, make sure the tape doesn't get twisted!
Fourth step: Tie a loop at the top
I hung the decorations on the end of the wall lamp, so I tied a loop to the end of the ribbon and hung it with a loop big enough to fit just over the lamp holder decorations. Of course, you don't have to hang it specifically on a lamp (it's enough to tie it to a chandelier) - in this case, knot the end/tie it where you want it. This simple, cozy decoration looks good anywhere.
