With the end of the school holidays, the unbearable crowds at popular vacation spots usually magically disappear. However, from September to November, many European destinations can offer the same things as in summer - only without the noise of children, and often at much more favorable low-season prices. So if you don't have children, or if you have them, but you can leave them in the care of your grandmother for a few days, it's worth planning a trip for autumn.

And where should they go? No way to Sweden, for example: in the otherwise beautiful Stockholm it is already dark at six in the evening at the beginning of October, and the average temperature is a hard eight degrees - not the typical post-season destination. On the other hand, for example, in Siena, Italy, on a warmer October day, it can easily be twenty degrees, sparkling sunshine and the sun only sets around seven.

Tuscany

Those who are more persistent can also drive their own car to the lush and hilly landscapes of Tuscany: the journey is approx. nine o'clock. And if you interrupt it with an instant sightseeing tour of Venice, the trip is even more pleasant, but it takes more time. If you want to get here faster and don't want to give up the freedom of a car - because, for example, you're staying in a beautiful farmhouse far from everything - fly to Pisa by low-cost and rent a car here. And those who, like us, are big fans of public transport, can easily get from the airport to Florence by bus, and if needed, even to our favorite Italian city, the magical Siena.

Siena
Siena

In Siena, you can easily while away several days in the medieval city center: here is the building of the world's oldest bank, which is still in operation today, and you can also visit Europe's first hospital. And it is also worth devoting a few hours to the majestic cathedral with its fun, striped tower. The most beautiful view is also to be found here: you can see the whole city and the surrounding landscape from the huge wall, which stands as a reminder of the church expansion abandoned due to the plague epidemic. Claustrophobics should be prepared to climb two narrow spiral staircases for the view. But it's worth it!

Monteriggioni
Monteriggioni

If you get bored of the Middle Ages, head to Renaissance Florence. Or would you rather visit the tiny towns crowning the hilltops? Montepulciano, Montalcino, Pienza and San Gimignano are also easily accessible. And if you want a very special experience, walk a section of the ancient Via Francigena pilgrimage route: we hiked it from Siena to Monteriggioni, we loved it. On the way home, feel free to spend a day in Pisa, the city has more to offer than the Leaning Tower.

Andalusia

Would it be nice to go to the beach, not just to see the city? Also take a low-cost flight to Malaga, the center of the Costa del Sol. In September, there is still perfect beach weather, but in the first half of October, sunny weather and the right water temperature are unthinkable. In addition to sand and sun, Málaga has excellent museums, and you'd be remiss not to miss the Alcazaba, the Moorish fortress towering over the city, and the elegant marble-paved pedestrian street Calle Larios.

Alhambra, Granada
Alhambra, Granada

An additional advantage of a holiday in Malaga is that you can easily reach the most interesting cities of Andalusia, which have a particularly exotic atmosphere thanks to the fabulous and former Moorish rule. Ronda, Granada, Córdoba or even Seville are waiting for you to explore. In Córdoba, the zigzag old town blooming with geraniums and the absolutely amazing mosque must be seen, and in the Alhambra in Granada, one feels as if the tales of the Thousand and One Nights have come to life.

Stay home and drink wine

But we can also understand if you put the long organization and travel to hell and prefer to stay in the country in the fall. The weather here is also nice, and the harvest season is at its peak, wine festival after wine festival.

The sky is always blue above Sárvár

Sárvár beach is also open in autumn, as long as the weather permits, the slides and outdoor heated pools are open. But there is also something to do here in cooler weather, as the indoor spa has 9 slides, a wave pool, children's pools and a baby world waiting for little and big ones. You can forget about everyday life in the warm, healing water pools and pampering massages. (X)

Between September 5th and 6th, for example, in Budafok and Etyek, you can diligently taste wine accompanied by other entertainment programs. But in the charming village of Tokaj-Hegyaljai, Mádo, there is also a wine party this weekend: the furmint is celebrated here. The Budavári Wine Festival also only has to wait until September 9, on September 16-20 there will be a Bortér in Szeged, on Dóm tér, and on September 25-27 the European Wine Festival will be held in Villány. Just make sure to choose a favorite.
