Fashionable and unique spaces can be created if one is willing to do a little for them. This is especially true for attic spaces, as their unique properties definitely require unique solutions. After the installation, the furnishing, or even the renovation, also requires that we first carefully think through the steps.

Customized options

The design of attics and attics always requires compromises. Ideally, it also has walls that provide all vertical surfaces, and you only have to take into account the slope of the roof a little higher. In such cases, the decorator's job is somewhat easier, since he does not have to turn to a carpenter, he just has to furnish with lower, chest-like furniture. It is conceivable that even the larger pieces can be found with some skill, but if it is not possible, they simply have to be placed in another room with non-slanted walls. But this height is perfectly suitable for clothes storage, as there will be room for practically everything except really long dresses and jackets.

However, this does not mean that non-vertical wall surfaces should be left out of the calculation. For example, the TV set can also be mounted on non-sloping surfaces, the only problem is that the sloping wall must be made suitable for load bearing. This can be done with osb sheets, which can be placed under the plasterboards. Even the beam can be a good solution, since it was designed for load bearing. However, care must be taken here that the driven screws and nails do not weaken the wood.

And if there are no vertical walls at all?

In the event that you don't have any usable vertical wall space at all, you'll need to get a little more creative. In such cases, a good carpenter can solve many of your problems, although we all know that it is not very cheap. Unfortunately, however, you will not find cabinets and storage units on the market that are suitable for filling the triangular space and fit exactly in the angle of your attic. And if you don't work with custom-made furniture, you can waste a lot of space.

Using the wall surface is much more difficult here, since the walls are slanted in their entire extent and exclude the possibility of standing cabinets. You can't really count on shelves either, because if you use the traditional deep ones, you won't be able to put anything on them, while there will be a lot of dead space behind them (and a place for dust cats to breed), and wider solutions will disturb the useful space.

“Furnishing an attic room is never an easy task. Commercially available products can rarely be used well in these types of apartments and rooms. This is typically the living space where you should seek out a designer for the most optimal design. Also, in the room bounded by the roof planes, almost without exception unique furniture manufactured by a carpenter is needed in order to be able to place sufficient and well-usable storage space, so that the living space remains spacious at the same time, says interior designer and visual designer Zsoltai Tünde.

Increasing the sense of space

But what can we do to make the space seem as spacious as possible? The fact that the wall surfaces slope inwards also reduces the feeling of space in the attic - but luckily there are tricks to prevent this. In order to eliminate the feeling of claustrophobia, first of all, try to have as many windows as possible in the space, this will allow a lot of natural light to enter, and with the help of the windows, the outside world will also move into the room.

We know that in other cases you can use mirrors to increase the space, but this won't work here either because of the slanted surfaces. The point is that the mirror "continues" the space of the room, thereby increasing the feeling of spaciousness, but on an inclined surface, mirrors can only increase the amount of light, not the feeling of space, since only the floor will be visible in them.

However, you can play with colors here too. White and light shades - although they may not be the most practical - are especially suitable for increasing the sense of space. White walls and neutral-colored furniture, shades of sand, and light pastel colors all calm the eye, make the space appear larger, and it's easier to adjust accessories and furniture to them.
